Here is a smart method of avoiding solder cross contamination and a great soldering surface tip from @sinead_cleary_jewelry - “I only use vermiculite soldering blocks because its my preference. I dont like how messy charcoal blocks are. The vermiculite blocks are great because you can stick pins or wire into them. But I also like them for fusing. I write on the sides of my blocks so I keep them clean and can easily tell which ones are used for what. I like to use different blocks and picks for silver and gold and a different block for fusing. That way any excess solder left on my block doesnt get stuck to a piece that I dont want it on.
