For this #tooltalktuesday I’m super excited to discuss my Lortone tumbler, given to me by @seattlefindings 😃 Members of the community ask me all the time whether tumblers are worthwhile and they absolutely are! UPDATE *They can add some strength especially to thinner gauge wire (they don’t truly work harden) and shine them up as the steel shots burnish against your work! Some tumbler tips (be sure to swipe to check my videos and images 🤓): The Lortone has a larger washer on top which you can use to take the lid off! It is super helpful to get a strainer to pour your shots and work into to save time from digging around when your work is ready to come out. Make sure said strainer is a fine enough mesh that your steel shots will not fall through it 🤦🏼‍♀️ if they do, use a powerful magnet to help pick them up 😉 I know this from personal experience! I spoke with Lortone and they suggested using Dawn soap and advised against using polishing compounds like Sunsheen Burnishing Compound. The reason being the Sunsheen can breakdown the rubber barrel more rapidly. You always want to fill your tumbler 2/3 of the way so that it runs properly! Lastly if you purchase a new Lortone you will want to tumble with FLAT Coca Cola for an hour (make sure you let the Cocal Cola become completely flat prior to doing this and tumble with your shots!)
