Recently, we discussed where a ring should sit on a mandrel when determining the size. Thank you to all of you who reached out to share your thoughts (too many of you to name here 🙏🏻) what really resonated with me was the way @noctuajewellery described it, and she also drew up a little chart! 🙏🏻 wherever the inside ring is the smallest, that part of the ring should align with the desired number. For example if your ring is made of rectangular wire, the inner diameter is even throughout so the bottom edge should align with the desired number. If your ring is curved inside (comfort fit) the center of the curve will be the smallest and should sit on the desired number. A separate issue that was discussed is the issue of wider rings (5mm and bigger) - they will still be measured the same way on the mandrel but you should advise your customer to go up a half-size or more since wider rings have a tighter fit. 😅 hope that makes sense.
