Here is a tip for keeping a heavy gauge ring together while soldering - use stainless steel binding wire! Simply wrap it around and then use a pair of pliers to twist closed. I personally like 20-24 gauge binding wire but you can find uses for all different gauges. To date we’ve shared tips about wrapping a charcoal block with binding wire, sewing a broken honey comb together and I recall someone mentioning they fashioned their own t pins. You do want to make sure all binding wire has been removed before you place your piece in the pickle, as the steel will cause copper plating on your work! You also want a cheap pair of flush cutters to cut the binding wire, don’t use your quality cutters as cutting the steel will ruin them in time. That’s the other reason I like some of the thinner gauges they are easy to quickly snip. Hope this is helpful and be sure to share your uses for binding wire that I didn’t mention!
