Here is a technique for when you want to solder near fragile item like shells from @sassylemonade - “I’ve been asked a few times about how do I save the shell from getting burnt? I use Vigor Heat Shield, you form it all around the shell. It does get messy, make sure you don’t get any on the area you need to solder. After soldering you wash it off, it’s that easy.
What I use this clay on are precious stones, soldered joints, enameled pieces, shells, and sea glass.” Thank you for sharing with us! We have shared about vigor heat shield before, I like to use it to protect delicate clasps and chain when soldering a jumpring. I agree it’s messy but worth it when I don’t have to deal with melted parts or things soldering together that I didn’t want! #metalsmithsociety #jewelrytipoftheday #metalsmith
