Here is a stone setting tip from @marquisjewelryacademy - “You know those cute single serve cheese wheels? We save that red cheese wax for stone setting. This wax starts out a little sticky but after a few days of bench dirt (think, wood, abrasive and metal) it becomes the perfect tackiness for picking up stones and checking fit. Some people mount it to a brass rod as well, but I prefer to mold my little chunk into a cone shape. Here you can see me checking the fit of a rose cut quartz in a carved heavy bezel.” I love this tip and have used it since I saw Emily doing it last year!
