It’s the caption for me 😂 patina tip from Rebecca of @moptopjewelry - “I use Midas Black Max (Rio Item 331053) with a Q-Tip to get a deep black patina on my silver pieces. There are few important steps to getting an even application. Firstly, clean your piece thoroughly. I like to use No Name Patina Prep (Rio Item 335025) and a toothbrush to remove any residue. Wear gloves to avoid getting oils from your hands on the piece. Then, let it dry completely (I use a food dehydrator to speed this up). Still wearing gloves, dip the cotton swab directly into the bottle and apply the black max. Sometimes I loosen the cotton a little to get more of the liquid into it. Once finished applying, immediately neutralize in a baking soda and room temp distilled water bath. It’s important the water is room temp and that you don’t let the patina sit for long. Prolonged exposure and hot or cold water can give the patina an unattractive white cast. Finally, give the piece a good scrub with room temp water and dish soap. I try to let it sit for at least a couple hours before sanding/polishing as the patina can continue to develop even after neutralizing.
