Coffee Filters in Sink Drain to Catch Metal and Stones

Learn how placing coffee filters under your studio sink drain catches steel shot, dropped stones and precious metal bits for refining.

Put a few coffee filters right under your sink drain in your jewelry studio.

They can catch steel shot from your tumbler, and if you ever drop a gemstone, a piece of jewelry, or a tiny little component, they might save you.

I also find they catch little bits of precious metal that, despite our best efforts, can still end up down the drain. I leave the filters for even a few weeks and when they get really filled with particles they go into my precious metal refining bucket.

It’s a small habit that could save you a lot of heartache later.

P.S. Did you spot the new aprons? 👀 They’re a great way to support the page, and I’d love to know what you think!
