Shop Policies + FAQs

Thank you so much for supporting Metalsmith Society. Every order helps support the free educational content, tools, and community resources I work hard to share with jewelry makers around the world.

The Metalsmith Society Shop & Marketplace Collections

The Metalsmith Society website includes two distinct collections, each curated with intention and care.

Metalsmith Society Shop Collection

The Shop Collection includes Metalsmith Society apparel, and merch that are either made to order or shipped directly from my studio or production partners. These items are fully managed through Metalsmith Society, and the policies outlined on this page apply to all Shop Collection purchases.

Metalsmith Society Marketplace Collection

The Marketplace Collection is a thoughtfully curated selection of tools and supplies from small businesses and established tool companies that I personally use and trust in my own studio.

When you purchase an item from the Marketplace Collection, you’re placing your order through Metalsmith Society, but the item is fulfilled and shipped directly by the tool company. This allows me to highlight and support great toolmakers without holding inventory or adding unnecessary handling steps.

Because of this fulfillment model:

  • Discounts and promotions do not apply to Marketplace Collection items.

  • Shipping timelines, packaging, and availability are set by the vendor

  • Marketplace items may ship separately from other Metalsmith Society purchases

If you ever have a question or concern about a Marketplace Collection order, you’re always welcome to reach out to me. I’m happy to help connect you with the toolmaker or company and assist however I can.

The Marketplace Collection exists to support toolmakers, small businesses, and companies doing great work — and to make it easier for you to find tools I genuinely recommend, all in one place.

Unless otherwise noted, the policies below apply to items in the Metalsmith Society Shop Collection. Marketplace Collection items may have different fulfillment timelines and restrictions as outlined above.

Ordering & Fulfillment

Most Metalsmith Society apparel and merch items are produced after an order is placed and fulfilled directly by my production partners. This made-to-order approach allows me to offer thoughtful, small-batch merch while avoiding overproduction and excess waste.

I know ordering apparel online isn’t always easy. Because each item is created specifically for you, I recommend taking a moment to review product details and size guides before placing your order. Size guides are included on apparel listings to help you choose the best fit.

Some items — such as stickers, or limited edition apparel — may ship directly from my studio. For this reason, items in the same order may arrive in separate packages.

Returns & Exchanges

Because I don’t keep inventory for made-to-order items, my standard policy is not to offer exchanges or returns.

I know ordering the right size online isn’t always easy — and on occasion, community members do order the wrong size. When this happens, I’m often able to make an exception and accept a return, but because everything is made to order, it isn’t always possible to resell the item once it’s returned. Additionally, because I don’t keep inventory across multiple sizes, receiving the correct size would require placing a new order. If you ever have a question or concern about your order, you’re always welcome to reach out and I’ll do my best to help.

If a return is approved, return shipping costs may be deducted from the refunded amount.

If your order arrives damaged, misprinted, or incorrect, please contact me within a reasonable timeframe. Simply take a photo of the issue and email me at corkie@metalsmithsociety.com so I can submit a replacement request with my manufacturer.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel an order, please contact me as soon as possible. If the item has not yet entered production, I’m happy to issue a refund.

Please note that payment processing fees charged by PayPal or credit card processors may not be refundable.

Quality & Production

Quality matters deeply to me. I work with production partners who prioritize thoughtful manufacturing practices and consistent quality standards, and part of the cost of Metalsmith Society merch reflects careful sourcing and production choices.

Many Metalsmith Society apparel items are printed on Comfort Colors® blanks, a brand I choose because of its thoughtful approach to how garments are made and its efforts to reduce environmental impact through processes like its Pigment Pure™ dyeing method, which uses significantly less water and energy and avoids unnecessary chemicals. Comfort Colors also uses 100% ring-spun U.S. cotton for its soft, durable feel, and maintains oversight of much of its supply chain from fiber to finished garment.

Shipping

Shipping rates are calculated in real time to provide the most accurate pricing available. International orders may be subject to customs fees, taxes, or delays that are outside of my control.

Production timelines vary by item, but most orders ship within 7-15 business days.

Please double-check your shipping address at checkout. Orders shipped to an incorrect address cannot always be recovered or replaced.

All orders include tracking information, with the exception of stickers, which are mailed as a standard letter at no cost and do not include tracking.

Please note: if an item must be produced outside your region due to availability, customs fees may apply. I’m not notified when this happens and unfortunately can’t predict or pre-collect those fees.

EU Shipping Update

At this time, Metalsmith Society is unable to ship orders to the European Union and EEA.

In late 2024, new product safety regulations went into effect that significantly changed what’s required for small businesses to sell into Europe. As a one-person business, meeting these requirements would involve additional administrative and compliance steps that aren’t sustainable for me right now.

This decision wasn’t made lightly. I’m deeply grateful for the international community that has supported my work over the years, and I truly appreciate your understanding. I hope to revisit EU shipping in the future if circumstances change.

Lost Packages

Once an order has shipped, responsibility for delivery rests with the courier. If a package appears to be lost in transit, the quickest way to resolve the issue is to contact the courier directly using the tracking information provided.

Because I don’t have access to the courier’s internal claims process, I’m not always able to intervene or replace lost packages. That said, if you’re unsure who to contact or need help locating your tracking details, you’re always welcome to reach out and I’m happy to point you in the right direction.
